Cole Palmer has now scored 16 goals this season

Cole Palmer scored a hat-trick in the Premier League to become the 200th player to do it. Erik ten Hag was nearly overwhelmed by hat-trick hero Cole Palmer’s most recent Premier League victory.

Cole Palmer contributed to his burgeoning legend at Stamford Bridge with his first professional hat-trick as Chelsea defeated Manchester United 4-3 in perhaps the game of the season on Thursday.Palmer’s penalty in the 19th minute and Conor Gallagher’s score in the 4th placed the Blues up, but Alejandro Garnacho’s incredible ball from Moises Caicedo enabled him to close the gap and score after the break.Six minutes prior to halftime, Bruno Fernandes finished off a brilliant team play with a well-placed header to tie the score. Garnacho appeared to have sealed United’s victory in the 67th minute after nodding in a magnificent assist from Antony.

Palmer scored two goals in extra time, all but ending Manchester United’s chances of playing in the Champions League the following year. Despite facing 28 shots, deluded United manager Ten Hag insisted that his team deserved to win.

He gasped: “I don’t know [how Chelsea came back]! We were 2-0 up and then we made silly mistakes.

‌“When the eight minutes got added on it gave us a lift and I thought let’s go for it. It was madness. We need to try to win as many games as possible but to win like that, there is nothing better.

‌”We thought when we scored the third goal the fans lifted us and I saw the gaffer say there were two minutes left – and thankfully I scored again.”

Nine minutes into the final period, the Blues were behind 3-2 when Palmer scored his second spot in a crazy thriller at Stamford Bridge, seemingly saving Chelsea a point.Amazingly, though, Palmer still had time to land the game-ending punch at 99:39, when his 20-yard attempt misdirected off Scott McTominay. Palmer also gave one final twist to the tale by acknowledging that he was a United fan growing up.

With eight games remaining, United, who are being watched by co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, are nine points behind Tottenham in fifth place.
