Enzo Maresca provides update on Cole Palmer's availability against Arsenal

Palmer could play against the Gunners.

Cole Palmer is fit enough to make an appearance for Chelsea in Sunday’s Premier League grand match at Stamford Bridge against London rivals Arsenal.

The 23-year-old forward did not play in the victories against Burnley and FC Barcelona after injuring his toe last week, when he stubbed it on a door.

Due to injuries, the England international has only made five appearances in all competitions this season.

“He is available to start,” said Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca.

“Everyone is happy, the team-mates are happy, we are all happy and the most important thing is Cole is happy because a footballer wants to play games and make the sessions every day.”

“He is our best player, we are happy he is back. We need to give him time to be 100% fit. He has done fantastic in the past and no doubt he is going to do very good for this club in the future.”

Maresca had hinted earlier that Palmer might find the game this Sunday to be too early. The Blues, who are now in second place, right behind the Gunners, will want to narrow their lead at the top to three points with a victory. They could have suffered a serious setback in Palmer’s absence.

Palmer last played in a 2-1 loss against Manchester United on September 20. After that, Chelsea have played 13 games in all competitions, winning 10, losing two, and drawing the other.

After joining from Manchester City in September 2023 for an initial £40 million, he has led Chelsea’s scoring charts in both of the previous two Premier League seasons, contributing 15 goals last season after scoring 22 in his debut.

With five goals in all competitions, summer signing Estevao Willian has excelled in Palmer’s absence. Enzo Maresca indicated the two could play together on Sunday.
