Chelsea star Cole Palmer trademarks 'Cold Palmer'

Nobody will be allowed to use Cole Palmer’s trademark without his permission.

Chelsea and England forward Cole Palmer has now trademarked the term ‘Cold Palmer’ with the UK government’s Intellectual Property Office.

This means that nobody will have the right to use the term ‘Cold Palmer’ for commercial purposes without his consent. Palmer will now be eligible to add his trademark to ice cream, toys, clothes, footballs and football boots.

It also allows the forward to extend the trademark to other products, such as beard trimmers, underwater vehicles, mopeds, and mouse mats, if the need arises.

Furthermore, Cole Palmer has trademarked his name as well as his autograph. He submitted a separate application to trademark a video of his signature celebration.

Who are the other football stars to have done this?

Other football players to have done the same include Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham and Lionel Messi, who have successfully recorded trademarks.

Ronaldo’s famous CR7 trademark is now a worldwide brand identity across many products, while Kylian Mbappe’s arm closed celebrations after scoring goals have been trademarked by him. Meanwhile, Gareth Bale has done the same with his ‘Eleven of Hearts’ goal celebration in 2013.

Why do famous people register a trademark?

Registering a trademark allows people and businesses to take legal action against anybody who uses it without their permission.

Moreover, famous sports players use their trademark symbol on their own brands, indicating their ownership and warning others against unauthorised use. However, a trademark can not only be a symbol but also features words, sounds, logos and even colours.

With the latest registration, Cole Palmer can build his personal brand with his trademark. The Chelsea forward is famous for his cold celebration in the game.

The player is currently nursing a groin injury, and his return remains to be seen as the Blues continue their title charge this campaign.
