Fabregas and Messi have a great relationship off the field.

Lionel Messi’s former FC Barcelona teammate Cesc Fabregas has not ruled out the prospect of the Argentine joining Serie A club Como.

Fabregas, who is currently the head coach of the Italian club, could entice Messi to join the team due to his friendship with the current Inter Miami player and his wife, Antonela Roccuzzo.

Ever since being promoted to the managerial role at Como, Fabregas has been pivotal in aiding the Italian team to secure Serie A promotion. He even led them to a 10th-place finish in the league the previous season.

Messi’s wife, Roccuzzo, was spotted in the stands for Como’s pre-season friendly game against Lille, igniting rumours of Messi’s possible move to the Italian club.

Moreover, even Messi’s teammate and friend has himself welcomed such speculation regarding the former Paris Saint-Germain star joining his club, when he was questioned about Messi’s possible transfer to the Serie A club.

Fabregas opens up about Messi’s prospective switch to Como

He told reporters: “Never say never, he [Messi] was at my house on vacation. He went on a trip to see friends, we are friends, even his wives and children. As Ludi said after the match, we can’t say Messi has never played for Como, given his children. But he’s in America.”

Meanwhile, the Argentine player’s deal with the Herons will expire at the end of the year, and the club are confident that Messi will extend his contract for another year. Until then, the rumours will continue to swirl about Messi’s future, who is also expected to play in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

For the time being, the Como fans can envision one of the greatest of all time joining their club, while Messi will continue his terrific form in America this season, having scored 18 goals in Major League Soccer in 18 matches.
