Copa America 2024: Argentina injury news & suspension list for final against Colombia
Argentina are looking to go back to back at Copa America.
Lionel Scaloni’s Argentina have booked their place in the Copa America 2024 final after a solid 2-0 win against tournament newbies Canada in the semifinal stage to extend their unbeaten run in the competition.
Following a calculated start to the match, Argentina eventually broke the deadlock as they took a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute courtesy of Julian Alvarez’s clinical finishing in front of goal. In the second half, captain Lionel Messi joined the party as he scored his first goal of the 2024 Copa America campaign to give La Albiceleste a comfortable 2-0 lead in the contest.
Despite their valiant efforts, Jesse Marsch’s Canada proved to be the second-best team on the night, as defending champions Argentina made it to yet another Copa America final.
Lionel Scaloni’s side had finished the group stage phase as Group A table-toppers, beating the likes of Canada, Chile, and Peru in the process, with an impeccable record of three wins, three clean sheets, nine points, and five goals scored.
During the decisive knockout rounds, Argentina emerged victorious against a resilient Ecuador in the quarterfinals after a nerve-wracking penalty shootout win (4-2). After the game had finished 1-1 at the end of regulation time, Argentina’s 2022 World Cup hero Emiliano Martinez delivered the goods yet again during the penalty shootouts with his two consecutive penalty saves, as La Albiceleste survived a major scare.
On July 15, the 2022 World Cup winners are set to lock horns with Colombia at the Hard Rock Stadium in Florida for the grand finale of Copa America 2024.

According to the guidelines, only if a player receives a red card in the semifinal will he miss the Copa America final.
In their five matches of the tournament, Argentina have been relatively lucky to escape with just one major injury concern and no player suspension issues. However, that one injury sideline was potentially the biggest in world football as it concerned star player and captain Lionel Messi.
After playing in the opening two matches, La Albiceleste headed into their final group game against Peru without the services of Messi, as he had sustained a groin/thigh injury in the previous match against Chile. However, Lionel Messi made a remarkably quick comeback to play a key role in Argentina’s triumphs over Ecuador and Canada in the quarterfinal and semifinal, respectively.
With an entirely fit and talented squad at his disposal for the 2024 Copa America final, Lionel Scaloni will look to guide La Albiceleste to yet another international trophy this summer.
