The defender appeared to have sustained serious injury.
After an unsettling collision with Antonin Kinsky that stopped play for eight minutes on Sunday, Cristian Romero left the Stadium of Light in anguish.
Sunderland hosted a struggling Tottenham team in a Premier League match. Just after the hour mark, the Black Cats broke the impasse after a fiercely contested first half. Nordi Mukiele charged into the visitorsâ penalty area and then fired a tremendous long-range shot.
Just moments later, Tottenhamâs already dismal day became worse. Cristian Romero tried to shield the ball from the Sunderland forward as Brian Brobbey chased it far into Antonin Kinskyâs territory.
But Cristian Romeroâs knee seemed to strike the Tottenham goalkeeperâs head during the charge, causing both players to fall to the ground in clear pain.
The game was halted for around eight minutes while medical personnel treated the two right away, placing Kinsky on his back and Cristian Romero face down.
After the collision, Kinsky required a lot of head strapping, but he was allowed to continue. This is good news because Tottenham are already without Guglielmo Vicario due to hernia surgery.

The team is missing Wilson Odobert, Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison, Rodrigo Bentancur, Ben Davies, and Mohammed Kudus, in addition to Vicario, who will be on the treatment table for a brief period of time after surgery.
