Ronaldo led a protest due to insufficient backing of the PIF towards Al-Nassr.
According to Al Nassr and Cristiano Ronaldo’s coach, Jorge Jesus, his team needs to figure out how to make up for a lack of “economic power” if they are to defeat high-spending Al Hilal in the Saudi Pro League.
Al Nassr continue to put pressure on league leaders Al Hilal with Saturday’s 2-0 league victory against Al-Fateh, which also signalled Cristiano Ronaldo’s comeback.
Jorge Jesus talks about Al-Hilal’s economic power compared to Al-Nassr’s

The leader of Al Nassr had skipped the previous two league matches in outrage over the shortage of funding the team was granted from the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF) during the previous transfer window. Rivals Al Hilal, who acquired Ronaldo’s former Real Madrid teammate Karim Benzema from Al Ittihad.
“I’ve already been at Al Hilal,” Jorge Jesus said.
“I’ve been on the other side, so I know what that’s like. I’ve already benefited from it. They have more economic power. When I was there, I benefited as a coach. It’s normal. Al Nassr, with different resources, has to compete for the top spots. We have to continue to be strong.”
Jorge Jesus joined Al Nassr last summer with lofty goals after leading Al Hilal to the league championship, the Saudi Kings Cup, and the Super Cup in 2024 during his second term at his former team.
Since joining Al Nassr in December 2022 after leaving Manchester United, Ronaldo, 41, has not yet taken home a significant trophy.
He has been the Saudi Pro League’s top scorer for the past two campaigns and is now only two goals behind Al-Ahli’s Ivan Toney as the league’s second- highest scorer.
