It’s the first time that Ronaldo’s exhibition has been held outside Portugal.
Hong Kong football enthusiasts waited for hours on Monday to take pictures of Cristiano Ronaldo’s jerseys and trophies at an exhibition. It is described as the first of its type outside the superstar’s home country of Portugal.
Visitors took photographs near life-size statues of the ex-Manchester United and Real Madrid player, including one in traditional Saudi attire and another in mid-air festivities, during the grand opening of the “CR7 LIFE Museum Hong Kong” at a posh shopping mall.
Ronaldo’s stardom can never be denied. He has one of the greatest fan followings all over the world. He also boasts a massive following on social media, which is apparent as he is the most followed athlete on Instagram.
“Cristiano Ronaldo is my idol… he’s special,” said 14-year-old Alvin Lai, who was first in a queue of more than 100 people.
“He’s the most hardworking person out there,” said university student Henry Singh. “He’s 40 years old and still going very strong.”
In an Instagram post a month ago, Ronaldo referred to the new two-year deal he signed with Saudi Arabian team Al Nassr as a “new chapter.”
Next month, Al Nassr are scheduled to participate in a preseason competition in Hong Kong.
Tomas Froes, a spokesman of the football player’s family office, stated that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo will be meeting fans at the museum “very soon.”
Froes told AFP that the display, which is 12,000 square feet (1,110 square meters), delivers a “strong message for everyone to achieve their dreams.”
The Hong Kong showcase will continue for a year before moving to the Chinese mainland, according to the organisers.
