Cristiano Ronaldo vs Lionel Messi vs Lamine Yamal: Stats comparison at age 17

Yamal has started to draw comparisons with Ronaldo and Messi.
Lamine Yamal, the Barcelona wonderkid, scored a goal and put up an incredible display in last night’s 3-3 Champions League semi-final tie with Inter Milan to mark his 100th senior appearance for the team.
Yamal was playing at his very best and was clearly Barca’s primary man, even though he is only 17. The winger, who ducked past multiple players and curled a curler past Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer, was the driving force behind the recovery from a 2-0 deficit.
Since making his debut at the age of 15 years, 9 months, and 16 days, he has scored 22 goals for his boyhood club. In his first 100 games wearing a Barcelona shirt, he has also recorded 33 assists.
What Messi and Ronaldo accomplished prior to maturity is being completely destroyed by Yamal’s record thus far. Before turning eighteen, the Argentine icon made just nine appearances and scored one goal for Barca.
It wasn’t until he was 19 years old that Messi established himself as a regular and scored ten goals in a season for the Catalan powerhouses.
At the age of 17, Ronaldo was just starting to make an impression at Sporting Lisbon. He had participated in 19 games, tallying five goals and four assists.
After Sir Alex Ferguson noticed him in a pre-season game, he moved to Manchester United the next year at the age of 18.
Yamal is aiming for a possible treble-winning season with Barcelona this season after leading Spain to Euro 2024 triumph last summer. Questions regarding similarities to Messi were posed to the teenager prior to Friday night’s draw with Inter.
He said: “I don’t compare myself to him, because I don’t compare myself to anyone, and much less with Messi.”
“We are thinking about improving ourselves, every day, and on being better on the next day. So I don’t think the comparison makes sense, with Messi even less, I’m going to enjoy myself and be myself.”
