The Vatreni secure a round of 32 berth!

The Croatia national football team faced off against the Ghana national football team in their final and third group stage game. This 2026 FIFA World Cup contest took place at the Philadelphia Stadium.

The Zlatko Dalić-led side have now secured back-to-back wins in the mega competition. They have now outplayed the Black Stars in their third group stage outing and have secured a berth in the round of 32.

The Ghana national football team might not be knocked out of the FIFA World Cup 2026 yet, but their status of getting to the knockout stage is not yet confirmed. There was a very less amount of control from their side on their style of play.

Five important things we learned from this match:

1. Attacking rhythm found for Croatia

The Croatia national football team have not been able to come up with their best performances in the FIFA World Cup 2026. After losing their first game against England and barely securing a win against Panama, the Vatreni have now found out what is going to work for them in the final third. Petar Sučić and Nikola Vlašić were the goal scorers.

2. Lukar Modric with heavy work rate

Lukar Modric has once again proved that age is just a number. His presence in the midfield was phenomenal against the Black Stars. The 40-year-old controlled the tempo for the Croatia national football team. He also came up with an assist and was one of the most consistent players in the squad.

3. Ghana’s defence exposed

Despite securing an interesting goalless draw against England and a 1-0 victory against Panama, the Ghana national football team have now conceded two goals at the hands of Vatreni. It was their worst performance in the FIFA World Cup 2026 and they will now be looking to fix it.

4. Goal by Derrick Luckassen not enough

Derrick Luckassen scored a crucial equaliser in the 73rd minute for the Ghana national football team. It was an important goal and could’ve secured a direct qualification spot for the Black Stars, but their defence made a mess in the end and dropped three points.

5. Nikola Vlašić’s match-winner

Nikola Vlašić helped the Vatreni confirm their spot in the round of 32 for the FIFA World Cup 2026. It was a sensational and important goal for the Croatia national football team. On the right wing, he played a crucial part for his side. He can be a dependable option for Croatia for their remaining campaign.
