The Narod’ak have just a solitary point but remain in contention for knockout qualification.
Czechia take on Mexico in their final Group A match in the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2026 at the iconic Estadio Azteca in Mexico City on June 24. The Central European side were held to a draw by South Africa in their previous outing and will need all three points tonight to have any shot of qualifying for the Round of 32.
Miroslav Koubek’s men began their World Cup campaign with a narrow 2-1 loss to South Korea. Despite briefly leading through Ladislav Krejci’s header, they conceded twice through Hwang In-beom and Oh Hyoen-gyu to lose the game.
The Narod’ak followed it up with a drab 1-1 draw with South Africa. They took the lead in the sixth minute when Michal Sadilek found the back of the net. However, despite dominating the game, they failed to add to their lead, and South Africa found a late equaliser via a Teboho Mokoena spot kick.
With just one point earned so far, the Czechs have a tough path to qualification. First, they have to beat Mexico, who are already through to the next stage with two wins out of two. Second, they have to hope that South Africa defeat South Korea, and that the Czech side finish over South Africa on goal difference.

Czechia (3-4-2-1): Matej Kovar; Robin Hranac, Tomas Holes, Ladislav Krejci (c); Vladimir Coufal, Michal Sadilek, Lukas Cerv, David Doudera; Denis Visinsky, Pavel Sulc; Adam Hlozek.

Thoughts on the lineup
Koubek will stick with his preferred three-man defence. Hoffenheim’s Robin Hranac and Slavia Prague veteran Tomas Holes will join influential captain Ladislav Krejci in protecting Matej Kovar, who starts between the sticks. Wolves player Krejci will be key for his side, both in terms of defending and being an attacking presence on corners.
Vladimir Coufal and David Doudera start in the wing-back positions. Last match’s goalscorer Sadilek will once again anchor the midfield along with defensive midfielder Lukas Cerv. Viktoria Plzen attacker Denis Visinsky and Lyon star Pavel Sulc start in advanced roles.
Hoffenheim’s Adam Hlozek starts as the lone striker tonight. Star forward Patrik Schick, who has disappointed in the tournament so far, is surprisingly dropped to the bench, though he will surely come on in the second half.
