Is Ange Postecoglou the man to lead Tottenham Hotspur to silverware?

The Australian manager delivered Spurs’ first-ever trophy in 17 years.

Daniel Levy has spoken about what led to Ange Postecoglou’s sacking at Tottenham Hotspur. Unquestionably, Tottenham’s UEFA Europa League victory was a significant upside to an otherwise difficult season in the last term.

Under Australian manager Postecoglou, who suffered the consequences of Spurs’ subpar domestic play by losing his job, the North Londoners ended 17th in the Premier League 2024-25 standings.

Despite ending the Spurs’ 17-year drought for a major title, Daniel Levy and the board of directors decided to fire the former Celtic manager.

In a recent instalment of Sky Bet’s “The Overlap,” Levy acknowledges that Postecoglou left the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after making his name in the team’s history, but circumstances unrelated to the manager’s European triumph ultimately led to his dismissal.

What conclusion led to the firing of Postecoglou?

“Ultimately, the decision sits with me, but it’s always a collective decision. We have a board of directors, but under the board, we have a group of technical staff, and they advise.

“We had to explain the decision to part ways with Ange. Ange just won us a trophy – a European trophy – highly significant and he’s always going to be in our history.

“However, we couldn’t lose sight of the fact that we finished 17th in the league, we lost 22 Premier League games, and it’s impossible for Tottenham to be in that position, and so we had to take the emotion out of it and we had to give some data points as to why we decided to do what we did.

“Whichever level you do it, no one likes telling somebody, ‘You’re losing your job’, but it is the nature of football. We’re there to win and yes, we won a European trophy – and it was fantastic – but we also need to win on all fronts – and the Premier League says it all,” Daniel Levy said.

The Spurs chairman, who has been in his current role for about 25 years, is not well-liked by the team’s supporters.

For how long has Daniel Levy been the chairman of Tottenham?

He has been the chairman of the club for 25 years.

Who decided to sack Ange Postecoglou?

Levy made the final decision to sack, but the board members also gave their input.

Who is now the new manager of Spurs?

Thomas Frank is the new head coach of the Spurs team.
