The Spanish goalkeeper has been without a club since summer 2023.
According to reports, David de Gea is set to confirm his next club in the coming days after the goalkeeper left Man United in the summer of 2023. Since then the Spanish goalkeeper has been without a club and it was expected that he would join a new club quickly after leaving Man United but that hasn’t been the case.
But now the 33-year-old will be on its way to a new club with interest coming from Saudi Arabia, America, Italy and even the Premier League. However, reports confirmed that he won’t join any English top-flight club besides United. Thus, a move to the Premier League might have been ruled out.
A few days back the former United goalie dropped a coy reply on his social media handle with an hourglass emoji and those who are well versed with the social media lingo have assumed that David de Gea is set to make a decision on his future soon.
Meanwhile, a report from Athletic confirms that the custodian has a number of options available which means he will soon make a decision on joining a new club. Journalist Guillermo Rai wrote:
“Sources close to De Gea — kept anonymous to protect relationships — said the former Manchester United goalkeeper had several options on the table, including a club in Saudi Arabia, one in the U.S. and one in Italy.
An English club has also expressed interest, but the player does not want to return to the country after his 12-year association with United. De Gea expects to have news about his future next week.”
De Gea‘s time at United was sort of a rollercoaster but his stint at the club came to a sour end when he couldn’t bid farewell to the fans after 12 years at the club. The 33-year-old won two Golden Gloves and kept 147 clean sheets and it’s not hard to see why any club wouldn’t want such a talented goalie.
However, he might have been waiting for an ideal club, after rumours suggest that the Spanish shot-stopper was hoping for Erik ten Hag to leave so he could rejoin United. Once again, that hasn’t been the case, which means De Gea will hope to look for other clubs.
His last season at Old Trafford was filled with plenty of criticism from media and fans and the only decision to get rid of them was to leave the club which David de Gea ultimately did.
