Fans have been quick to compare Doue to Yamal.
Désiré Doué, one of Europe’s most talented young players, didn’t mince words while responding to the escalating discussion about him and FC Barcelona star Lamine Yamal.
Someone asked the UEFA Champions League winner on TikTok who he believed was superior, him or Lamine Yamal. “Me,” the French 20-year-old said with assurance. Fans were denied the chance to see the Desire Doué vs. Yamal rivalry during the Champions League final.
Despite not being the obvious front-runner in the discussion, he has been compared to Lamine Yamal, who is among the favourites to win the Ballon d’Or and will compete with Ousmane Dembele for the award.
How the Yamal & Doue comparisons unfolded
As Luis Enrique’s PSG won numerous titles last season, including the Champions League trophy and the Ligue 1 title, Doué gained popularity. Despite becoming instrumental for Barcelona now, Yamal was already well-known for his part in Spain’s victory at the UEFA Euros (2024) the previous year.
In Hansi Flick’s first season as manager, the 18-year-old won a domestic treble, which included the Spanish Super Cup, LaLiga, and Copa del Rey.
Given both teams’ performances during the UCL 2024-25 tournament, fans expected a Barcelona vs. PSG final in UEFA’s top tournament.

Barcelona were the best team in the league phase. Although PSG had a rough start, they found their footing after beating Manchester City. They went on to outperform and beat Liverpool, Aston Villa, and Arsenal to go to the final.
Meanwhile, although Barca enjoyed an excellent Champions League run, being the clear favourites to reach the final, they were halted by Inter Milan in the semi-final.
In one of the most one-sided outcomes in the competition’s history, PSG defeated Inter in the championship game. Barcelona as opponents would have proved to deliver a more thrilling contest, according to one of the key conclusions drawn from the game.
For the time being, the rivalry between two of the game’s rising stars is developing off the field; perhaps spectators can expect something more in the future.
