The Brazilian’s future remains uncertain at the club.
During the Spanish Supercopa semifinal match, Diego Simeone, the manager of Atletico Madrid, got into a heated argument with Vinicius Jr, star winger for Real Madrid.
Simeone became irritated with Vinicius’ whining throughout the first half and chose to play mind games with the winger. In an attempt to distract the Real Madrid winger, the Argentine coach began making fun of him.
“Vini, Vini… Florentino will kick you out, remember I told you!” Simeone was heard telling Vinicius over the microphone.
This is obviously a reference to rumours that Real Madrid may be prepared to trade Vinicius if he doesn’t sign a long-term deal. But even after the incident, Vinicius Jr. managed to shrug off the taunt and maintain his composure.
After the match, Simeone said:
“Vini Jr? I have nothing to say. Ever since my playing career, I’ve said that what happens on the pitch stays on the pitch”.
“I have a lot of respect for Carvajal, for all Real Madrid players. I clearly told him what it looks like from the outside”.
While Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso said:
“I heard what Simeone said to Vini, and I didn’t like it”.
“You can NOT talk like that, some things cross the line”.
Vinicius replies to Simeone’s comments on social media
However, the Brazilian hit back at the Atletico Madrid manager following the game, when journalist Fabrizio Romano posted their altercation on Instagram, Vinicius commented on his Instagram post with:
“He (Simeone) is eliminated yet again.”
Vinicius Jr’s future at Real Madrid still remains uncertain
Throughout the season, there has been considerable speculation about Vinicius Jr.’s future at Real Madrid, fueled by rumours that he may be sold due to several off-field incidents and outbursts. Alonso jumped to the Brazilian’s defence after Real Madrid supporters reportedly whistled at him in the previous game.
Vinicius tends to protect himself and has been outspoken about it. However, a sizable portion of the media frequently takes a negative stance against him, choosing to remain silent or refrain from openly supporting him. The Brazilian and his group have taken notice of this. We’ll see what happens to him in the future.
To win the first trophy of the 2025–26 campaign, Real Madrid will now play Barcelona in the final. Los Blancos defeated Barcelona 2-1 in LaLiga at the Santiago Bernabeu in October, their first victory of the season.
