Sri Lankan winger Dillon De Silva has earned another international call-up after being named in the national team squad for their upcoming friendlies against Seychelles and Mauritius later this month. 🇱🇰

The 24-year-old, who was born in England, currently plays for Oxford City FC in the National League North. While he continues to make his mark in the lower tiers of English football, De Silva has already established himself as an international player for Sri Lanka, having made his debut for the Golden Army in 2021.

De Silva has spent the past few years building his career in England and has followed a path similar to former Sri Lankan international Marvin Hamilton, who also featured in the country’s lower divisions. However, his latest move to Oxford City in July has yet to bring regular game time, with the winger missing from the squad in three of their seven matches this season.

Nevertheless, another international opportunity awaits De Silva. Here is a closer look at the England-born winger’s footballing journey and his rise from the English lower leagues to representing Sri Lanka on the international stage.

Dillon De Silva is a Sri Lanka International who was born in Camden Town on 18 April 2002. He has spent all of his professional career in England.

It all started at the Tottenham Hotspur Youth Academy. He was part of the academy of the Big 6 club between 2013 and 2016, after which he made his move to Barking FC for a year (2016-2017).

He later joined the former Premier League club Queens Park Rangers Rangers FC, where he was a part of their academy between 2017 and 2020. He was later promoted to the QPR U23 team.

Dillon made his first move away from QPR when he was loaned to 6th division club Torquay FC. The loan spell ended in only 4 months, after which he made his way back to the QPR U21 team. Dillon made quite an impression with Torquay FC during his loan spell, as at the end of the 2022-23 season, he made his first permanent transfer to Torquay FC.

After signing for Torquay FC, Dillon would make his next move only 6 months later to 5th-tier team Wealdstone FC. Dillon would become quite a journeyman after this, as he would 4 months later, make his next move to the 5th Division side Sutton United FC.

A season later, Dillon would be sent on loan to 5th Division side Tamworth FC. After returning from his loan at Tamworth, he would immediately be sent back on loan to 5th Division side Dagenham & Redbridge FC. He would return to Sutton after only a 2 month loan stint, after which he would be sent back to the 6th Division for a loan spell at Maidenhead United. After 3 loan spells at 3 different clubs, Oxford City FC would sign him from Sutton United FC.

During his many loan spells, Dillon was called up for the Sri Lankan National Football team back in 2021. Since 2021, Dillon has made 26 appearances out of a possible 36 matches played by the Golden Army. Out of his 26 appearances, Dillon has managed to find the back of the net on only 3 occasions.

Dillon has managed to make a total of 117 appearances, with 11 goals and 5 assists to his name.
