Djed Spence set to become first-ever Muslim player to represent England

Spence currently plays for Tottenham Hotspur.
Djed Spence could create his own milestone by becoming the first Muslim player to play for the England national team. The full-back commented on being called up for the Three Lions’ World Cup qualifiers and how his faith helped him achieve everything in his career.
The Football Association (FA) has also recognised it as a big landmark for the team to give a chance to the first-ever Muslim player in the squad ahead of the matches.
Spence credits his faith in his religion for overcoming difficulties
Meanwhile, the Spurs player talked about becoming the first Muslim player to represent the Three Lions. He said:
“It’s a blessing, it’s amazing. I did see something like that. I was surprised, really, first ever. It’s just amazing. I don’t have the words really.”
“I think it shows if I can do it, you can do it. Not just Muslim kids, any child of any faith. Put your mind to something and you can do it, man.
“It’s definitely a big deal to play for England, 100 per cent. I don’t really feel the pressure for certain things. I just play football with a smile on my face, be happy, and the rest will take care of itself.”
However, Spence hasn’t had it easy throughout his playing career as the full-back endured hardships from constantly switching clubs. In his playing career, the player has played for Middlesbrough, Nottingham Forest, and now Tottenham. He also had loan spells at Rennes, Leeds United and Genoa.
Moreover, the 25-year-old received critical remarks from ex-Spurs boss Antonio Conte and former Middlesbrough manager Neil Warnock. Despite all this, his religion played a key part in pushing him to overcome all the setbacks in his career.
Despite England’s wealth of options in the full-back area, Spence will be hoping to get a chance to represent his national team. Given that he can play on both left and right, it gives Thomas Tuchel more choices in that area.
