The Leopards will aim to build on their impressive draw against Portugal.
DR Congo produced one of the surprises of the opening round of fixtures in Group K after holding Portugal to a 1-1 draw. Few expected the African side to take points from one of Europe’s traditional heavyweights. But a disciplined defensive display and a determined performance helped them earn a valuable result.
That draw has placed the Leopards in a promising position heading into their second group-stage fixture. They still have the possibility of moving closer to the knockout rounds.
The challenge, however, becomes even tougher against Colombia. Néstor Lorenzo’s men began their World Cup 2026 campaign with a convincing 3-1 victory over Uzbekistan. They currently sit at the top of Group K and will be eager to secure qualification.
DR Congo are unlikely to make wholesale changes following their encouraging performance against Portugal. The side displayed excellent organisation, defensive discipline and resilience. Qualities that will once again be required if they are to frustrate one of South America’s strongest teams.

Who all will be expected to be in the starting lineup?

Goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi is expected to continue between the posts after a composed display in the opening match. The experienced goalkeeper produced several important interventions against Portugal. He demonstrated his ability to command the penalty area under pressure.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Arthur Masuaku are expected to occupy the full-back positions. Wan-Bissaka’s defensive awareness and tackling ability make him one of DR Congo’s most reliable defenders in one-versus-one situations. Meanwhile, Masuaku provides balance on the opposite flank through his experience and ability to contribute in attacking phases.
At the heart of the defence, Chancel Mbemba will continue to marshal the backline. The veteran centre-back remains one of the leaders of the squad and brings invaluable international experience. Alongside him, Axel Tuanzebe offers athleticism, composure and the versatility required to deal with Colombia’s fluid attacking movement.
Containing players such as Luis Díaz, Jhon Arias and Luis Suárez will require near-perfect concentration from the defensive unit. DR Congo’s backline impressed against Portugal. They will hope to deliver another disciplined performance.
Samuel Moutoussamy is expected to anchor the midfield alongside Noah Sadiki and Ngal’ayel Mukau. This trio provides a blend of energy, technical quality and defensive stability. It will allow DR Congo to remain competitive against stronger opponents.
Moutoussamy’s work rate and ball-winning ability make him a key figure when the team is forced to defend for extended periods. Sadiki brings composure in possession and intelligence in transition. Meanwhile, Mukau adds mobility and the ability to support attacks from deeper areas.
The wide areas are expected to be occupied by Yoane Wissa and Théo Bongonda, two players capable of causing problems on the counterattack. Wissa’s direct running, pace and finishing ability make him one of DR Congo’s most dangerous attacking outlets. Meanwhile, Bongonda offers creativity, dribbling ability and valuable experience at the international level.
Leading the line is expected to be Cédric Bakambu. The experienced striker remains a vital figure for the national team thanks to his movement, finishing ability and leadership. Against Colombia, opportunities may be limited, making Bakambu’s efficiency inside the penalty area particularly important.
If DR Congo are to secure another positive result, their attacking trio will need to make the most of every opportunity that comes their way.
