Drake had previously bet on Argentina to defeat France in final of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Rapper Drake made a playful jab at Lionel Messi as he wagered $300,000 on Canada to win the Copa America 2024 semifinal against Argentina.

Many were taken aback as the Canada national football team led by American coach Jesse Marsch advanced to the semifinals of a significant international tournament held in the United States. They can now compete for the grand prize as they are just one more game away.

To get to the final, they will, however, have to overcome the most difficult obstacle, including eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi and the defending champions Argentina. But everything is conceivable, and people in Canada aren’t afraid to dream big.

Drake, a native of Toronto, is one of those guys. Despite having already seen Canada lose 2-0 to La Albiceleste in the opening game of the Copa America 2024 tournament, he is lending his significant financial support to the Canadian cause.

The six-figure payment is resting on Marsch’s players making it to the championship, and the Grammy Award-winning artist made a joke about how things “could get Messi.”

Rapper Drake of the song “One Dance” might win $2.8 million if Canada upsets Argentina. His presence is expected for an eagerly awaited game in New Jersey, where the Canucks are already assured of at least a third-place play-off spot.

The two nations have only met twice till this point. Argentina triumphed 5-0 in a friendly match played back in 2010.

Messi will participate in the semifinal, as revealed by Argentina’s manager Lionel Scaloni. After suffering a thigh injury, the 37-year-old missed the last group play match against Peru on June 29. Five days later, he returned for the quarterfinal match against Ecuador, where he played the whole 90 minutes.
