La Tri will be among the underdogs in the competition.
Ecuador have announced their FIFA World Cup 2026 squad as they arrive at the competition with high hopes. The only time they have ever advanced to the knockout stage was twenty years ago.
However, their current football team is known as the “Golden Generation,” and the only team that outperformed them in South American qualifying was Argentina, the reigning world champions.
La Tri will be optimistic about at least making it out of a group that includes Germany, Côte d’Ivoire, and Curaçao thanks to their outstanding team. However, a lot of spectators are encouraging them to go much farther.
Ecuador’s key player could be Moisés Caicedo, regarded as one of the top defensive midfielders in the world.
The most attractive youthful talent in the nation is his Chelsea teammate Kendry Páez, a 19-year-old winger on loan at River Plate.
Elite centre-back Willian Pacho won the UEFA Champions League with Paris Saint-Germain last year, making history as the first Ecuadorian to accomplish it.
In the Champions League final this year, Pacho won another trophy and will now turn his focus on one of the elite competitions, as he will be Ecuador’s crucial player in the matches.
