Ecuador will face each other for the second time at the FIFA World Cup.
Ecuador are set to take on Germany in their last group stage game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The game will be played at the New York-New Jersey Stadium in East Rutherford on Thursday, June 25. While Julian Nagelsmann’s side has already qualified for the knockouts after winning the group, Ecuador only have one point after two games.
Seen as one of the dark horses to have a deeper run in the campaign, Ecuador faced the Ivory Coast in the opening game of the summer competition. The game looked like a one-sided clash, ending in a disappointing 1-0 defeat for La Tri.
Sebastián Beccacece’s men, who are famous for their disciplined defensive approach, had their backline opened up against the West African side. In the second game, they faced Curacao, who had faced a freak 7-1 loss to Germany. However, the World Cup debutants managed to hold La Tri to a goalless draw.
In two games so far, Sebastián Beccacece’s men have yet to score a goal in the 2026 edition of the FIFA World Cup as they prepare themselves to face their biggest challenge of the group stage.
Meanwhile, Germany started their campaign with a 7-1 win against Curaçao and then continued their winning run with a 2-1 win against the Ivory Coast.

Ecuador XI (4-4-2): Hernán Galíndez; Gonzalo Plata, Joel Ordóñez, Willian Pacho, Piero Hincapié, Alan Franco, Moisés Caicedo, John Yeboah, Pedro Vite, Nilson Angulo, Enner Valencia
Thoughts on the lineup
Enner Valencia will continue to lead the attack for La Tri. He will be supported by John Yeboah, Pedro Vite, and Nilson Angulo. They will be keen on scoring the side’s first goal of the tournament. Ecuador are in dire need of a win if they want to remain in the last 32.
Angulo and Yeboah will add width to La Tri’s line-up, while Alan Franco and Moisés Caicedo will support the side’s framework and add defensive depth. Pedro Vite’s performance would also be crucial, as he will be the creative engine.
Franco and Piero Hincapié will play the inverted full-backs for Sebastián Beccacece’s side, backed by Hernán Galíndez in the goal. Joel Ordóñez and Willian Pacho will form the centre-back duo. The side is ready to face Germany; however, scoring could remain an issue for them.
