The last time the teams met was during an international friendly held in 2013, May 29, at a location in Florida where Germany prevailed 4-2 with two goals each from Lukas Podolski & Lars Bender.

The only time the two countries faced off during any FIFA World Cup in 2006 occurred when Germany defeated Ecuador 3-0 in Berlin; two of those goals were scored by Miroslav Klose & one by Lukas Podolski as Germany went on to complete their round robin series with three wins out of three games.
