Ecuador to begin World Cup campaign on June 15.

The biggest sporting spectacle of the year, the 2026 FIFA World Cup, is set to raise its curtain on June 11. The tournament will be co-hosted by the USA, Mexico and Canada, marking its return to the North American soil since 1994.

From heavy favourites Argentina, Spain and France to debutants Curaçao and Jordan, the competition will feature a record 48 nations, an increase from the traditional 32, with each team competing for the coveted trophy.

The Ecuador national football team have established themselves as one of the most unpredictable sides of the tournament. The team will be coming into the competition to make their mark after being eliminated in the group stage in the previous edition.

Led by Sebastián Beccacece, they had an impressive outing in the CONEMBOL qualifiers, finishing second behind current World Cup champions Argentina, placing huge expectations on the side for the tournament. The nation is currently described as its “Golden Generation”, boosting huge talents Moisés Caicedo and Willian Pacho to provide defensive stability, led by seasoned campaigners like Enner Valencia.

Ecuador national team will be competing in Group E at the World Cup, considered to be one of the trickiest groups of the competition. The group will comprise Curaçao, the Ivory Coast and Germany.

Germany secured their spot after finishing at the top of their UEFA qualifier group. Ivory Coast are set to make their return to the grand stage after a 12-year absence, qualifying after topping their CAF qualification group stage. Curaçao, under manager Dick Advocaat, had one of the most spectacular qualification stories to become the smallest nation in terms of population to qualify for the World Cup.
