Egypt preliminary squad for AFCON 2025: Mohamed Salah & Omar Marmoush included
The Pharaohs are yet to announce their final squad for the competition.
Egypt have announced their preliminary squad for AFCON 2025. Regionally based players are scheduled to arrive first, while key pharaohs abroad, like Mohamed Salah, Omar Marmoush, Mostafa Mohamed, Hamdy Fathy, and Ibrahim Adel, will join next week, after completing club commitments.
Despite injury problems that restricted their playing time this season, Emam Ashour and Mostafa Fathi have been selected. Ashour was limited to 46 minutes over four games after recuperating from a shoulder injury and Hepatitis A. After a string of muscular problems, Fathi has seen a little more action—287 minutes in six games.
Zamalek defender Mohamed Ismail keeps his position from the November squad, although he continues to wait for his first cap. Yasser Ibrahim of Al Ahly rejoins the squad, but Ahmed Nabil Kouka, a clubmate, is left out. Ahmed Fatouh, a left-back for Zamalek who has been out of form, can now play.
By December 11th, Hossam Hassan will be submitting his final 23-man roster to CAF, with the option to include four standby players.
The Pharaohs are scheduled to play one preliminary game against Nigeria on 14 December at Cairo Stadium before flying to Morocco for the regional event.
