The Three Lions pulled an impressive comeback in the last match.

England have endured a mixed start in the competition. Despite finishing their group as winners, Gareth Southgate’s team failed to assert dominance in the tournament. The Three Lions attack has been below their standard in the game but the defense is probably the reason they have made it to the competition.

In the Round of 16, they survived a scare as they were close to getting eliminated until Jude Bellingham’s acrobatic goal brought them back into the match. Gareth Southgate should be given the credit for the substitution after they inspired them to victory.

England Predicted lineup (Formation: 3-4-2-1)

GK: Jordan Pickford

The Everton man has been the number-one goalkeeper for the Three Lions since breaking into the side in 2016. Jordan Pickford has kept two clean sheets in the competition so far while conceding just two goals. Pickford is an experienced goalkeeper who is commanding inside the box and constantly guides his defense to maintain the defensive shape.

RWB: Trent Alexander-Arnold

Trent Alexander-Arnold is probably the best passer in the England squad. He is considered one of the best right-backs in the world. Gareth Southgate used him as a central midfielder in the group stage but that experiment has failed. In this match, he will be given the nod in his favoured role to help the team in creating chances.

CB: Kyle Walker

After initially playing in the right-back role, he will probably be shifted to the right center-back role in this match. Kyle Walker is arguably one of the fastest defenders in the world and is very difficult to beat in one-on-one situations. Walker is an experienced defender who is defensively outstanding but lacks in his attacking game.

CB: John Stones

John Stones is probably the best defender in England. Calm and comfortable on the ball, Stones is one of the best ball-playing defenders who has been performing at a high level in the Euros. He has made 10 recoveries, and 2 tackles and won 13 duels in the opening matches. Stones put on an excellent shift in the match against Slovakia to drag them into the quarter-finals.

CB: Ezri Konsa

Ezri Konsa had an excellent season with Aston Villa helping them to qualify for the Champions League places. He had to wait for his chance patiently in the tournament. With Guehi suspended, he has an excellent chance to solidify his place in the team by putting in an excellent shift in this match. Konsa is a tall, physical defender who doesn’t shy away from making challenges.

LWB: Bukayo Saka

Bukayo Saka was handed a new role in the match against Slovakia after failing to make an impression from the right wing. There are reports Southgate is playing to use him in the left wing-back role after impressing in that position in the last match. The change of position doesn’t change the fact that he is one of the best players in the England setup.

CM: Declan Rice

Declan Rice has performed excellently for the Three Lions in the tournament so far. He has put an excellent shift in the middle of the park and is arguably by far the best performer for England in the knockout stages. Rice has created three chances for the team while also making the most recoveries with 25 made 5 interceptions and won 8 tackles to cap off a brilliant performance.

CM: Kobbie Mainoo

Kobbie Mainoo has been a revelation for the Three Lions in the competition along with Cole Palmer. After impressing Gareth Southgate from the bench, he was handed a rare start in the last match against Slovakia. He didn’t disappoint either by delivering an all-round performance in the middle of the park. Calm and composed on the ball, Mainoo is an excellent passer of the ball who will be crucial in this match.

RW: Jude Bellingham

Jude Bellingham is having the best season of his life after guiding Real Madrid to a successful double this season. He has continued the impressive form in Euros after finding the back of the net against Serbia and Slovakia. He netted an incredible acrobatic goal in the last match to give the Three Lions a lifeline in the competition. Bellingham scored the goal at the right time as England were on the verge of elimination.

LW: Phil Foden

The Manchester City man had a wonderful season after guiding them to the Premier League title. He was voted the Premier League Player of the Season for his goal-scoring exploits. Foden has shown plenty of promise in the opening stages but is yet to score a goal in the tournament. He has created five chances so far while also attempting 8 shots. He will be an important player for the team in this match to unlock the Swiss defense.

ST: Harry Kane

Harry Kane had an incredible campaign with Bayern Munich as he netted 44 goals for the team in his debut season. He has netted two goals for the team so far and was very close to netting his third goal against Slovakia in the last match. The attacking trio of Kane, Foden and Saka has failed to assert their dominance in the tournament. He will be raring to make his mark in this crucial match.
