The Three Lions will be looking to reach their second successive Euro final

Riding an unbeaten run in Euro 2024, the England football team booked their semi-final berth after getting past Switzerland in a closely fought encounter which saw the Three Lions seal a win in penalty shootouts.

The team led by Harry Kane will tend to give their all in the semi-final against the formidable Netherlands with a dream to reach the final and clinch their maiden Euro title. The side lost in a tie-breaker against Italy in the last edition’s finale. England look well-equipped in the ongoing competition, having won three and drawn two games. The team has struck five goals while facing three so far.

On that note, let’s have a look at how Gareth Southgate’s side will line up when they face 1988 champions Holland:

England’s predicted lineup against the Netherlands:

GK: Jordan Pickford

The 1.85m Everton goalie has done well in the ongoing competition. He played in all five games, keeping a clean sheet against Slovenia and Serbia while facing a goal each against Denmark, Slovakia, and Switzerland.

CB: Kyle Walker

The veteran Manchester City defender has performed consistently well for the Three Lions in Euro 2024. Even at 34, he has played entire minutes in all the games. He seems to be the best in business for England’s backline & will be entrusted with the responsibility of blocking shots against his side.

CB: John Stones

Another rock-solid Manchester City centre-half, Stones has also been consistent at England’s backline. He too has served full minutes in all the games. The no-nonsense defending produced by Stones makes England look defensively solid.

CB: Marc Guehi

The young Crystal Palace defender has earned praise from all for his role. He missed the quarters but has been present fully in all other games. Besides defending brilliantly, he provided at almost the end of full-time against Slovakia to keep his nation alive in the competition.

Guehi has previously earned two yellows in the competition but needs to stay careful in the semis against a tactically sound Netherlands.

RWB: Bukayo Saka

The sensational Arsenal youngster will be entrusted with a lot of responsibilities in the vital semi-final. Besides performing efficiently from the right to cater to the forward line with perfect chances, he also needs to perform defensive duties, which will be his main role.

The 2001-born played as a winger in all group stage & RO16 games, but shifted to a wing-back/ right sides midfield role in the quarters, providing the only assist of the game for the Three Lions. He also successfully converted his shot in the tie-breaker.

LWB: Luke Shaw

Owing to a series of suspensions & injuries, the Manchester United left-back is expected to start for Gareth Southgate, after missing the first four games of this competition.

He came in as a sub with Keiran Tripper & Ezri Konsa for Kobbie Mainoo, Eberechi Eze, and Cole Palmer in the game against Switzerland, playing a decent 42 minutes. Shaw needs to stay firm at the back and also assist the midfield when needed.

CDM: Kobbie Mainoo

The teenager from Manchester United has impressed a few eyes with the minimal chances he received in Euro 2024. He has been consistent with the side, usually catering as a central midfielder & as a defensive midfielder in the last one.

Southgate is expected to field him in midfield in this match too. He needs to stay sharp for any move from a technically sharp Dutch midfield.

CDM: Declan Rice

The 25-year-old Arsenal star has played every minute for England in the ongoing tournament. He even saved his nation by scoring the equaliser against Switzerland in the semis.

Rice will be thrived with the responsibility to penetrate upfront besides performing his duties in the defensive half of the field.

CAM: Cole Palmer

Another young, prolific & promising midfielder, Palmer is speculated to start in the all-important semis. He has come in as a sub in the last three games, displaying his talent in the minimum time received.

Palmer operated on the right wing in the last group stage games & the Round of 16. He showed class in the quarters, where he played 42 minutes as an attacking midfielder. He even struck the first one in the tie-breaker.

CAM: Jude Bellingham

The prolific Real Madrid youngster will be Ronald Koeman & Netherlands’ biggest point of concern. From scoring goals to providing perfect chances, Bellingham can do it all. He has already scored two goals in Euro 2024, besides creating many chances.

Bellingham, if left unmarked, can destroy any defense in the world. Him providing perfect passes to the ace striker Harry Kane will be a nightmare for Virgil van Dijk & co.

ST: Harry Kane

One of the finest strikers in the world currently, 30-year-old Bayern Munich star Harry Kane will anchor England’s ship from the front. He has already scored two goals, one against Denmark and one against Slovakia.

Captain Kane will surely look to end his trophy jinx by destroying the Dutch defense, entering the grand finale & clinching the long-fetched cup.
