The Three Lions will face off against Ghana in a Group L match.
England will lock horns with Ghana in their first-ever competitive game at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The last fixture between these two teams was played in March 2011. It ended in a 1-1 draw.
Thomas Tuchel’s side started their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with a convincing 4-2 win against Croatia. They remain the favourites to finish at the top of Group L. Croatia caused them some trouble during the first half as they equalised twice.
However, the three lions looked more in control in the second half. They took the game away from the 2018 FIFA World Cup finalists.
A win against Ghana will secure England’s place in the Round of 32. It will allow Thomas Tuchel to rest some of his key players during their final game of the group phase.
Tuchel was questioned before the tournament started about his decision not to pick players who have played a significant role in the past, like Cole Palmer and Harry Maguire. But England’s display so far has filled fans with confidence.
Who all will be expected in the starting lineup?

Jordan Pickford is likely to retain his position between the sticks for England. The back four will be a mix of Reece James and Nico O’Reilly as the full-backs. John Stones and Marc Guéhi are looking set to be the centre of the defence.
Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson and Arsenal’s Declan Rice will operate as the two pivots. The duo will be given the responsibility of building attacks from deep and disrupting opponents’ attacks as soon as possible.
The front four are expected to be made up of Noni Madueke on the right, Jude Bellingham as a 10, Anthony Gordon on the left, and Harry Kane leading the line as the sole striker. All four attackers possess different traits.
It makes England’s attack dynamic and difficult to stop. Harry Kane also likes to drop deep. He helps the wingers by pulling defenders towards him.
