Success in all these competitions sometimes sees these teams playing a shocking number of games in a single season. 10. Tottenham Hotspurs (1981-82) – Games played: 66
This season was very successful for the London-based club. Under Keith Burkinshaw, the club won their second successive FA Cup title beating Queens Park Ranges in the finals. They reached the finals of the League Cup and were also the joint winners of the Charity Shield.
9. Manchester United (2008-2009) – Games played: 66
This was Cristiano Ronaldo’s last season with the Red Devils and it certainly was a memorable one. The club won its third consecutive Premier League title. They reached the finals of the UEFA Champions League and added more silverware to their trophy cabinet by winning the FIFA Club World Cup and the League Cup.
8. Liverpool (1972-73) – Games played: 66
After going trophyless for seven consecutive seasons, Liverpool ended their trophy drought by winning the league title and the UEFA Cup. They also made deep runs in the League Cup and FA Cup reaching the fifth and fourth rounds of the competitions respectively.
7. Ipswich Town (1980-1981) – Games played: 66
This was one of the most successful seasons in the English club’s history. Managed by Bobby Robson, Ipswich Town finished as the runner-up in the league. They reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup and were crowned champions of the UEFA Cup by winning 5-4 against the Dutch side AZ Alkmaar.
6. Liverpool (1983-84) – Games played: 67
This season saw Liverpool becoming the first English club to win three major trophies in a single season. This English club were considered one of the greatest football teams of all time. They were crowned the champions of the league, the League Cup, and most importantly the UEFA Champions League. Ian Rush was the star of the team as he scored 47 goals across all competitions.
5. Tottenham Hotspurs (1971-72) – Games played: 68
Spurs won their first-ever UEFA Cup title this season by winning 3-2 against Wolverhampton Wanderers in an all-English final. They also reached the semi-finals of the League Cup. However, they struggled in other competitions. This English club only managed to finish sixth in the league table and missed out on the FA Cup as well.
4. Leeds United (1967-68) – Games played: 68
Leeds won their first-ever major trophy this season. They faced Arsenal in the League Cup finals and emerged victorious. They reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup and finished fourth in the league table. Overall, it was a fairly successful season for the English club and the fans remember it very fondly.
3. Chelsea (2012-13) – Games played: 69
The Blues came into this season as the defending champions of the UEFA Champions League and ended it with the title of UEFA Europa League. The English club reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup and the League Cup. Participation in other competitions like UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup saw them playing 69 games throughout the season.
2. Stoke City (1971-72) – Games played: 70
Stoke City won their first-ever major trophy during this season. They faced Chelsea in the Leagues Cup finals and registered a 2-1 win. Despite finishing 17th in the league, the club played exceptionally well in the other competitions.
1. Arsenal (1979-80) – Games played: 70
Arsenal are the only English club on this list that went trophyless in their longest-ever season. They reached the finals of the FA Cup and the European Cup Winner’s Cup but ended up losing both of them. Goalscoring was a major weakness for the club and that was evident in the closing stretch of the season.
