The Blues sit fourth in the league table.
Enzo Maresca, the manager of Chelsea, has identified the reasons why the Blues are not likely to win the Premier League this season.
Chelsea have defeated Barcelona 3-0 in the Champions League and Premier League winners Liverpool at home this season.
But the Blues have struggled for consistency in recent weeks as they trail behind the title contenders: Manchester City, Arsenal and Aston Villa.
Enzo Maresca says Blues need to be consistent
The Italian manager agreed when asked if it was fair that the Blues play better against “bigger” teams, but he emphasised that they must consistently perform at a very high level.
He told Sky Sports: “Probably it’s correct in this moment, and it’s the reason why we are not probably in this moment close to the top is that we need to be more consistent against different kinds of teams. And it’s one of the targets for the future, to try to improve how to play games against these kinds of teams, and hopefully we can continue to do the right things against big teams.”
“If you want to be there at the end of the season, you have to be consistent; otherwise, you struggle. That’s why I consider December, January and February important months, because after that I think you can set the targets in March, and hopefully we will be in a place where we can fight for something more.”
Maresca continues to be under immense pressure to deliver results in every game, but their performance have been far from convincing given the summer signings.
The club once again spent a big sum to bring many players to bolster their squad, but that has not been the result so far on the pitch. However, the Italian manager will hope that he will be able to produce results more consistently as Chelsea remain in the title contention.
Maresca has also been linked with the Man City job if Pep Guardiola was to leave at the end of season, so it will be interesting to see where the future of the manager lies.
