Erling Haaland becomes highest-scoring Norwegian in Premier League history; surpasses Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

The Norwegian striker has been setting new records with his goal-scoring exploits.

Erling Haaland broke the record set by former Manchester United player Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Saturday by scoring two goals against Burnley. With two goals and an assist, the Norwegian striker was brilliant as Manchester City easily won 5-1 at home.

With his brace, Haaland moved up to seventh on the team’s all-time scorer list, bringing his season total to nine goals in just seven games across all competitions. Now his City total stands at 133 goals in 153 appearances across all competitions.

Haaland also became the highest-scoring Norwegian in English top-flight history, overtaking Manchester United great Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with 93 goals in 103 Premier League games. In 236 games, Solskjaer had scored 91 goals in the league.

The Man City No. 9 has established a level in front of the goal that no other player can equal since coming in the summer of 2022. In 2022–2023 and 2023–2024, he was the Premier League Golden Boot winner.

Among the numerous reasons that made the 2022–2023 season historic were the 36 Premier League goals scored, which was more than any other player in history, and the 52 goals scored overall, which was a club high in City’s history.

He just needed 49 games to get 50 Champions League goals last week to become the fastest player to reach the 50-goal mark in the competition. It was done in 13 games fewer than the previous record-holder, Ruud van Nistelrooy. With eight goals in six league games this season, he is currently leading the Premier League goalscorer list as well.
