The Norwegian striker has led the club to many titles
Erling Haaland, star striker for Manchester City, has signed a long contract extension with Manchester City, renewing his stay at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2034, as per David Ornstein.
Since joining City in 2022, the Norwegian has won every trophy imaginable, including the UEFA Champions League and consecutive Premier League titles. Although it appears that City’s hold on the championship is waning this year, the agreement to lock down Haaland is a declaration of intent for the future.
One of “the most lucrative sporting deals ever,” as revealed by The Athletic, the new agreement is a nine-and-a-half-year renewal that also includes a heavy pay raise.
Although the precise numbers are yet unknown, it’s reasonable to anticipate that the arrangement, which was initially signed in 2022, would result in a large increase in earnings. According to reports, that first five-year contract was worth $97.5 million, which translates to an average yearly compensation of $19.5 million.
According to a BeinSports report from November, City were getting ready to make Haaland an offer of a new contract worth $25.3 million a year. The overall value of Haaland’s new contract could be approximately $227.7 million.
In order to provide himself the chance to join one of the Spanish powerhouses, such as Real Madrid or Barcelona, later in his career, Haaland reportedly requested that a condition be added to his original City contract.
No release clause included in Erling Haaland’s new contract
Given that Haaland will have a contract with Manchester City till the age of 34 and has no release clause, it appears that the Norwegian will likely play most of his career in the northwest of England. After a difficult few months for Pep Guardiola’s team, this is good news for the Cityzens.
The 24-year-old will undoubtedly be looking to break all possible Premier League records for goals in upcoming years. Alan Shearer, a former striker for Southampton, Blackburn, and Newcastle, currently holds the title with 260 goals. Haaland has 79 goals in the Premier League and has taken home the Golden Boot award the past two seasons.
He is therefore 180 goals away from surpassing Shearer. In essence, Haaland will need to average 19 goals a season over the next nine and a half seasons if he fulfils his entire nine-and-a-half-year contract with the Cityzens.
