The Norwegian has quickly cemented himself as one of the best strikers.
In the last Group G match of the FIFA Club World Cup in Orlando, Manchester City defeated Juventus. The match saw Erling Haaland score his 300th career goal, including for both club and country.
The 24-year-old Haaland was brought on at halftime to replace Egypt international Omar Marmoush, who had begun the match as a starter for Pep Guardiola’s squad.
The former Borussia Dortmund striker just took seven minutes to score as he slammed the ball into the Juventus net from a short distance on his third touch of the game.
Haaland’s goal, which gave City a 3-1 lead over Juventus, was his 123rd goal for the Premier League team in 145 games. He has now scored 300 goals in just 370 games for Molde, RB Salzburg, Borussia Dortmund, City, and the Norway national football team.
Erling Haaland reaches 300 goals in fewer games than Messi, Ronaldo and Mbappe
According to ESPN, he achieved the 300-goal milestone in fewer games than fellow leading scorers Kylian Mbappé (409 games), Lionel Messi (418 games), and Cristiano Ronaldo (554 games).
Man City manager Pep Guardiola told reporters:
“All I can say is congratulations.”
“He has scored 300 goals at 24 years old. I admire a lot the strikers. I am so happy for Erling, his goal and being involved in short spaces. So, so good.”
With a 5-2 victory, Man City tops Group G ahead of Juventus. As we all knew, the winning side would take on the runner-up from Group H in Monday’s round of 16 in Orlando. Hence, City will face Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal in the round of 16 after winning all their group stage matches.
Even though Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have far more goals than Haaland, the Norwegian attacker already leads them in a few important statistical categories.
The Manchester City player has been more effective in front of the goal. CR7 averages 0.73 goals per game, compared to Leo’s 0.76 average. Erling, on the other hand, has a stellar 0.81 goals-per-game average after scoring 300 goals in 370 games.
