The Checkered Ones can still make it out of Group B.

The Euro 2024 has unboxed a lot of surprises and upsets in just the group stages itself. Imagine what is in store for us in the knockouts and then the final. One such upset has been the journey of World Cup bronze medalists and every neutral’s favourite, Croatia who might be nearing the end of their journey at the tournament.

The Croats began their campaign with a demoralizing 3-0 defeat to one of the title favourites Spain, where they were torn to shreds. They then played out a four-goal thriller and shared spoils with Albania, where they conceded a late equalizer and had to settle for just one point.

In their final group stage fixture against the defending champions Italy. Croatia started strong and took a lead early in the second half, thanks to a goal from Luka Modric. But, the story was no different as they conceded one more late goal and had to settle for a draw.

They currently have two points to their name and are ranked third in Group B at the end of matchday three, with no more games in hand. Many might think that they don’t have a chance to go through to the next 16, but there’s a catch. Croatia can still go through as one of the best-ranked third-placed teams, but they need some magic and luck for that to happen.

Let us take a look at how Croatia can still qualify for the knockouts.

England to beat Slovenia with three or more goals

One of the three things need to happen right for Croatia. One is that England need to defeat Slovenia with a margin of three or more goals. England sit at the top of their group with four points to their name and will play Slovenia in their final group game. The Three Lions need to go out all guns blazing and secure a big margin victory in order to help their Croatian counterparts.

Turkey to beat Czechia or have a goalless draw

After Portugal became the first team from Group F to book a slot in the knockouts, Turkey are second in line to confirm their spot. Turkey are placed second with three points to their name and will play Czechia in their last group game.

They need to remain undefeated in their final game in order to secure their own qualifications and also fuel Croatia’s chances. Turkey should either pull off a victory or a goalless draw against the Czechs.

Portugal to beat Georgia or have a goalless draw

Portugal will also need to make a favour to Croatia. The Cristiano Ronaldo-led side will have to win their game against Georgia, and if not, play out a goalless draw in order to help Luka Modric and his teammates. If 2016 Euro winners do the needful, Croatia will most likely go through as one of the best third-placed teams.
