Euro 2024: Kobbie Mainoo becomes youngest-ever England player to play semifinals of major tournament

Mainoo has been key factor in midfield for Three Lions.
Kobbie Mainoo, at the age of just 19 years and 82 days, is the youngest player ever to represent England in the semifinals of a significant tournament (World Cup/EUROs).
England’s starting player against the Netherlands tonight is Mainoo. One of the breakout stars of Euro 2024, Mainoo once again delivered a strong performance as England defeated Switzerland on penalties to advance to the semi-finals.
The 19-year-old proved himself on the big stage with a confident performance, despite being substituted in the second half.
Kobbie Mainoo could never have imagined himself playing for the England national team eight months ago. Nevertheless, he was called up for Euro 2024 and has since established himself as one of the team’s main players.
In addition to being a member of the starting lineup, the talented 19-year-old leads the competition in a critical statistical measure. Analysts claim that Mainoo has the best passing accuracy of any player in the competition at Euro 2024, at 96%.
Mainoo has completed 138 passes in all, only 5 of which were incorrect—an awe-inspiring accomplishment.
Mainoo made his debut in the Euro 2024 against Slovenia, entering the game as a replacement at the half. Subsequently, he began the knockout matches against Switzerland and Slovakia.
One of their best performers has been Mainoo, and the argument over Declan Rice’s midfield partner, which raged for the opening two weeks of the Euros, is finally settled.
The poise and talent Mainoo provides were encapsulated in a single instant versus Switzerland. During the first half of the quarterfinal match on Saturday, the 19-year-old accomplished something that English midfielders hardly ever do.
