Lamine Yamal has performed consistently for Spain at the Euro 2024.

The Euro 2024 has seen its fair share of talented youngsters but Lamine Yamal is definitely standing out from the rest of them.

FC Barcelona’s academy famously known as “La Masia” is arguably one of the best academies in football. The likes of Gerrard Piqué, Andres Iniesta, Xavi Hernandez, Lionel Messi and many other legends have their footballing roots in La Masia. Over the past few years, La Masia has led to the breakthrough of many new talented players such as Gavi, Alejandro Balde and some more but Lamine Yamal has stood out amongst them as well.

At the age of just 16 years old, Lamine Yamal has broken through FC Barcelona’s and Spain’s first team. Let’s take a look at the records which Lamine Yamal has broken for Spain at the Euro 2024.

5. Youngest player to play in the Euros

Lamine Yamal became the youngest ever player to play in the Euros at the Euro 2024. Yamal’s appearance in the starting XI against Croatia in the Euro 2024 group stage earned him this accolade. The 16-year-old Yamal bested and took the accolade from Kasper Kozlowski who held it when he was just 17 years old. Kozlowsko achieved it at the Euro 2020 against Spain.

4. Youngest player to appear in knockout stages of the Euros

The FC Barcelona winger has snatched one more record and that too from rival club player, Jude Bellingham. Initially, Bellingham held the record for the youngest player to appear in the knockout stages of the Euros. The Real Madrid player achieved this when he helped England beat Ukraine in the knockout stages of Euro 2020. Lamine Yamal snatched this record after Spain beat Georgia 4-1 in the round of 16 of the Euro 2024.

3. Youngest player to appear at the semi-final of a major tournament

Lamine Yamal’s consistent and brilliant performances have solidified his spot in the starting XI for Spain. His appearance against France in the semi-finals of the Euro 2024 led to him breaking yet another record. He is now the youngest player to play in the semi-final of a major tournament.

2. Youngest player to record three-plus assists at a major tournament

Cristiano Ronaldo is the player with the most assists in the history of Euros (8). The Portuguese legend has played at six different editions of the Euros and is the only one to do so. On the other hand, Lamine Yamal is just 16 years old and is now the youngest player ever to record three-plus assists in a major tournament.

One of Yamal’s best assists came in Spain’s 3-0 thrashing of Croatia in their opening group-stage game at Euro 2024. The teenager provided a brilliant whipped cross to Dani Carvajal who scored the goal. Moreover, La Roja’s gem has many years left in his career to further add to his assist tally as well.

1. Youngest player to score at the Euros

The record of youngest goalscorer at the Euros was broken twice at the Euro 2004. Wayne Rooney broke it first but was eventually and shortly replaced by Switzerland’s Johan Vonlathen. Coincidentally, Vonlathen who was 18 years old at the time also broke this record after scoring a goal against France.

20 years later, Lamine Yamal is now the youngest goalscorer at the Euros, scoring a brilliant goal against France. The 16-year-old inspired a comeback against Les Bleus after scoring a long-range goal from outside the penalty box. It helped his side win 2-1 on the night.
