Turkey will face Austria in the Round of 16.

Turkey enjoyed a successful Euro 2024 group stage, finishing second in Group F, level on points with table-toppers and tournament favorites Portugal.

Turkey started the tournament perfectly, dismantling newcomers Georgia 3-1 in their opening fixture, thanks to a wonder goal by their star player, Arda Guler. They encountered a setback in their next match, losing 3-0 to Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal.

However, Turkey secured their spot in the knockout rounds with a thrilling 2-1 win against a 9-man Czechia, with Besiktas forward Cenk Tosun scoring a late injury-time winner, sending Turkish supporters into dreamland.

Vincenzo Montella’s side will hope to carry their strong group stage form into the knockout rounds, where they will face some of the top nations in the world.

Round of 16: Red Bull Arena (Leipzig), Wednesday, July 3

Turkey will play Austria in the round of 16

Türkiye will be facing tough opposition in Group D table toppers and tournament dark horse Austria in the round of 16. With Ralf Rangnick at the helm of affairs, Austria has been one of the best teams in Euro 2024, as they finished top in the group of death, which was comprised of juggernauts such as 2018 World Cup winners France and Ronald Koeman’s Netherlands.

Vincenzo Montella’s Turkey will have to operate at their tactical best if they wish to topple the in-form Austria and progress to the next round of the competition.

Quarter-final: Olympiastadion Berlin (Berlin), Sunday, July 7

If Turkey somehow manages to get past their round of 16 opponents, then they will be facing the winners of the match Romania vs. Netherlands in the quarterfinals of Euro 2024.

The Netherlands finished third in Group D behind Austria and France, and despite a mixed-bag campaign so far, they could prove to be a gruelling opponent to face at this stage of the tournament.

Romania have enjoyed a dream run in Euro 2024 up until now, with them managing to finish the group stage phase as table toppers of Group E, bettering top sides such as Belgium and Ukraine in the process.

Semi-final: Signal Iduna Park (Dortmund), Thursday, July 11

Should Turkey make it to the final four of Euro 2024, their most likely opponents at this stage could either be tournament favourites England or defending champions Italy. A potential surprise opponent could be Switzerland, who are having a great tournament so far with an unbeaten record under their belt.

Despite finishing the group stages as Group C winners, the Three Lions have been far from convincing in their performances as a part of a relatively easy-looking group. However, the 2021 Euro finalists are usually a tough team to overcome at this stage of the competition due to their sheer star-studded quality of players.

Italy too was underwhelming in the group stage phase, as they barely scraped a second-place finish in Group B in order to qualify for the knockout rounds. With top players in almost every position, the Gli Azzurri are expected to have an upturn in form during such a crucial period in the competition, making them a frightening proposition on their day.

Final: Olympiastadion Berlin (Berlin), Monday, July 15

If Türkiye somehow manages to defy all odds and make it to the final of Euro 2024 under coach Vincenzo Montella, then they would be most likely facing the best nations on the other side of the draw: Spain, Germany, Portugal, or France.
