Europa League 2024-25 last 16 draw: Man United vs Real Sociedad & more

Many clubs are well-equipped to battle for the trophy.

The top eight teams from the new league phase, which was played across all European UEFA tournaments, advanced straight to the Round of 16. Eight more clubs joined them after securing passage via their two-legged knockout phase play-off matches.

The Europa League knockout stage draw has shown Manchester United and Tottenham what is to come in the competition. The two English teams saved themselves two further play-off games by finishing in the top eight of the Europa League league phase.

It has now been disclosed that Spurs will play AZ Alkmaar in the round of 16, while Manchester United will play Real Sociedad.

It had been determined before the draw that the two teams, who placed third and fourth in the league phase, would play either Real Sociedad or Arizona in the opening round of the last 16 knockout stages.

Rangers, under the leadership of Philippe Clement, face the difficult job of playing two legs against Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce, while Bodo Glimt will take on Greek team Olympiacos in the two-leg Round of 16 matches in Europe’s second-tier tournament.

Viktoria Plzen, the sole member of the Czechia, will play Lazio, an Italian team, in the final match of the eight Europa League Round of 16 matches. In a top battle between Athletic Club and AS Roma, two teams who have been predicted to go to the competition’s later stages, will face off in another matchup to watch.

The Europa League’s last 16 games are set to take place in March. All the teams will play their last-16 first-leg ties on Thursday, 6 March and the return legs happen on 13 March.
