Teams ranked from ninth to 24 will play in the play-offs round.
Europa League draws have been done. Many teams will soon be fighting to secure their place in the round of 16. The top teams who finished inside eight positions directly advanced to the knockout round.
At UEFA’s headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, this afternoon’s knockout round play-off draw revealed the fate of those teams that finished between ninth and twenty-fourth.
It happened soon after the Champions League last 16 draw, in which Manchester City were drawn against reigning champion Real Madrid among many other interesting matches.
Those who finished below eight will have to play in the play-offs rounds. If they successfully win it, the team will guarantee a spot in the round of 16. These are very fresh ideas put into practice for the first time after the UEFA launched new rules with a revamped league phase in the competition.
After securing one of the top eight slots in the league phase, Manchester United, Tottenham, and Rangers were already guaranteed a spot in the round of sixteen. They will need to wait until next month’s last-16 draw to learn their potential route to the May final in Bilbao.
Clubs ranked between 17 to 24 were in the unseeded draw while the teams who were ranked between nine to 16 were in the seeded draw.
One of the games to look forward to in the Europa League play-offs will be of Porto against AS Roma. Both are two top sides who will hope to secure their place in the round of 16.
Meanwhile, others who are playing in the playoffs will also be aiming to advance further in the competition. All those matches will take place this month.
