Every VAR error in Premier League 2025-26 season so far

The English top-flight continue to suffer due to poor referee decision-making.

Errors made by video assistance referees have increased during the first half of the Premier League season.According to data gathered by BBC Sport from the Premier League’s Key Match Incidents (KMI) Panel, errors have risen from 10 to 13 per season, a 30% increase.

With 20 mistakes at this point in the 2023–2024 campaign and 23 in the 2022–2023 campaign, it is still a significant improvement over prior years.Between seven and eleven, all but two of the errors were missed interventions, as the video assistant referee (VAR) failed to inform the referee that a judgment needed to be changed.

The number of incorrect interventions has decreased from three to two. However, the overall number of overturns has also decreased by 17.54%, from 57 in 2024–2025 to 47 this season.

Additionally, the KMI Panel lists on-field errors that fell short of the evident and unambiguous criterion for VAR intervention. Additionally, they range from 12 to 15.
