Maguire joined Man Utd from Leicester City in 2019.
Harry Maguire, England and Manchester United star, spoke about what difficulties he faced when being integrated into the new manager Ruben Amorim’s five at the back formation. During a round-table interview, he also talked about what adjustments were there under Erik ten Hag and later Amorim.
Harry Maguire explained how he didn’t face many problems playing in a three-at-the-back system under the Portuguese manager, but he did reveal that it was a minor challenge playing on the left.
But the centre-back revealed that as the season progressed, he fine-tuned himself and became used to playing in the three at the back lineup.
Harry Maguire, who lost his captaincy in the 2023-24 season, was faced with constant criticism due to his poor performance, and there were rumours that the club are looking to sell him.
But despite all this, the former Leicester City defender managed to bounce back and became a regular starter, and now he is once again an instrumental centre-back at the club.
While speaking during an Apollo Tyres event in India to launch United We Play 2025, which was also attended by Diogo Dalot and Andre Onana, we questioned Maguire about his ability to assimilate into Amorim’s system and what difference he has seen playing under Ten Hag and the former Sporting CP manager.
Harry Maguire discusses key differences while playing for Ruben Amorim after Erik ten Hag
”Yeah, I think last season I played under Erik ten Hag, and now Ruben Amorim plays three at the back, of course, it’s a little bit different, playing on the left, so yeah, I like playing at a back four and also a back three. So I really dont have a preference.”
”But the most important thing is the formation and style of the player and taking responsibility to make sure we improve our results and improve our Premier League finish next season, which I’m sure we will.”, revealed Harry Maguire while speaking to Khel Now.
