The FBI Seattle Field Office verified that federal agents captured five drones during Monday’s FIFA World Cup match between Egypt and Belgium at Seattle Stadium.
These five operators are now facing serious legal issues. According to the FBI Seattle, drone owners who fly without authorisation in restricted airspace face fines of up to $100,000, drone seizure, and federal criminal felony or misdemeanour prosecution.
Anyone wanting to fly a drone near downtown Seattle during the FIFA World Cup has been warned by law officials to leave it at home or risk losing it.

Federal and municipal officials are strictly enforcing the Federal Aviation Administration’s “No Drone Zone” throughout the region.
An FBI representative stated, “charging decisions are determined by the United States Attorney’s Office, who evaluate if cases meet the criteria for federal prosecution.”
The sheriff’s office is one of several local partners helping the FBI enforce the FAA’s restrictions. Jason Stanley pointed to global conflicts as an example of how small aircraft can be weaponised.
“We’ve been seeing on a world stage, with Russia and Ukraine, showing the world how effective drones can be used as weapons. And so, if we have the opportunity to keep the public safe… from that type of attack, we’re going to try and do that,” said Sgt. Jason Stanley.
While officials claim that many violators are merely enthusiasts searching for a good shot, law enforcement sees unauthorised drones as a significant security risk.
The FAA’s limitations on FIFA World Cup venues and related event sites, such as practice grounds and ‘Fan Zones,’ will be in effect regionally until July 19.
