FC Barcelona star RULED OUT of FIFA World Cup 2026

Spain have suffered a massive setback in their World Cup preparation.

Fermin Lopez, a midfielder for FC Barcelona, is now officially out of the 2026 World Cup due to surgery on a foot ailment.

Fermin broke his right foot’s fifth metatarsal during Sunday night’s LaLiga match against Real Betis, Barcelona confirmed earlier this week.

The surgery has prevented the attacker from playing for Spain in this summer’s tournament, even though the recuperation period is not that long, roughly two months.

With 13 goals and 17 assists in 48 games across all competitions, Fermin has had an outstanding 2025–26 season with Barcelona.

“First-team player Fermin Lopez suffered a fracture in the fifth metatarsal of his right foot during yesterday’s match. The player will undergo surgical treatment,” read a statement from Barcelona on Monday.

Moreover, the attacking midfielder has now successfully undergone surgery and will now start his recovery process.

In contrast, the forward was anticipated to play a significant role for La Roja at the 2026 World Cup and has two assists in his seven caps for Spain.

Although Fermin’s absence is a significant setback for both Spain and the player personally, Barcelona should only be without the forward for one game—their final La Liga fixture of 2025–2026 against Valencia on Sunday night.
