City were the only unbeaten European club in the group stage matches.

Manchester City defeated Juventus in Orlando, securing their spot in the round of 16 of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 knockout competition. Prior to the match, the Cityzens were behind the Italian team at the top of their group. But they overtook them with a 5-2 victory to set up their path to the championship game.

Pep Guardiola and his team departed the stadium without knowing who they would play in the round of 16, as Group H matches were scheduled for a few hours later.

But Real Madrid got the victory they needed to win their group and secure a spot in the round of 16 against Juventus. This means City will face Al-Hilal, who came second in Group H.

In the meantime, Manchester City will play Al Hilal, who defeated Pachuca and secured the second qualifying slot in the group by taking advantage of RB Salzburg’s loss to Real Madrid. Due to the draw, João Cancelo will have an improbable reunion with City when they play tomorrow in Orlando.

The most likely opponents of City in the quarterfinals are Inter Milan. City will play either Fluminense or Inter Milan in the quarterfinals if they defeat Al-Hilal. Even though Brazilian teams have previously achieved numerous unexpected victories against elite European opponents at the tournament, the Italians are predicted to win their match.

If Guardiola’s team keep progressing, they might face Chelsea, a competitor in the Premier League, in the semifinals. Chelsea, SL Benfica, Palmeiras, and Botafogo are their possible opponents in the semi-finals.

On paper, City’s side of the draw might be simpler. The pre-tournament favourites Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and PSG are on the other side of the bracket.

City won’t be able to meet any of them until the final, though. This route is highly possible if the team does end up in the final.
