The competition is yet to fill the entire stadium for the opening game.
FIFA officials have reduced the cost of tickets for the opening match of the Club World Cup 2025 because of fear that the game may be overshadowed by a large number of empty seats. The match will pit Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami against Al Ahly FC.
The event, which is scheduled to take place at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on June 14 and will serve as the inaugural match of the 32-team competition being conducted across the United States, has not yet sold tens of thousands of tickets, according to The Athletic.
The Dolphins’ home stadium, Hard Rock Stadium, can hold 65,326 people. According to The Athletic, fewer than 20,000 tickets may have been sold for the MLS team’s match against the Egyptian club, although FIFA disputed that figure in a statement.
Nevertheless, The Athletic was told by sources that soccer’s governing body became alarmed when ticket sales in recent weeks did not meet expectations.
Clubs from the world’s top leagues, notably Chelsea, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, will compete in the Club World Cup 2025.
FIFA has been employing a dynamic pricing approach to sell Club World Cup 2025 tickets, meaning that prices might change in response to demand.
When The Post looked on Ticketmaster late Wednesday night, the cheapest ticket for the Inter Miami game versus Al Ahly was only $55.75.
The Athletic reported in January that those seats were priced at $230. However, the cost of tickets for games against other teams has gone the other way. For example, Real Madrid games now cost hundreds of dollars.
“We are introducing many new, successful clubs from all over the world to the world through this tournament being staged in the 11 cities across the United States. Overall, we anticipate great attendances throughout the competition for this first-ever edition — a tournament that we believe will grow edition-on-edition,” FIFA told the outlet in a statement.
FIFA revealed the training locations for all 32 participating teams, including four in New Jersey that would be used by Red Bull Salzburg, Brazilian squad CR Flamengo, Portuguese team FC Porto, and African club Al Ahly FC.
