Spain are the highest-ranked team in the FIFA September 2025 ranking.

First used in December 1992, the FIFA Men’s World Ranking is a ranking system for association football men’s national teams. The most successful teams are ranked top among the men’s teams of the member countries of FIFA, the world governing body of football, which is determined by game results. Argentina were at the top of the standings before Spain overtook them as of September 2025.

Brazil have been ranked first for the longest period of time among the eight nations that have held the top spot: Argentina, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Spain.

Points are given according to the outcomes of every full international match that FIFA has recognised. In response to complaints that the previous calculating method did not adequately represent the relative strengths of the national teams, the ranking methodology has undergone multiple redesigns.
