FIFA confirm 16-team Women's Club World Cup to commence from 2026

Women’s Club World Cup will be played in January or February
Gianni Infantino, the president of FIFA, announced in May 2021 that the organisation intended to “revolutionise” women’s football by introducing the Women’s Club World Cup.
FIFA, the body that oversees world football, announced on Wednesday that the inaugural Women’s Club World Cup has been suggested to begin in January or February of 2026 and that the 16-team competition will take place every four years.
FIFA withheld any additional information at this time, despite its council meeting taking place ahead of the 74th FIFA Congress in Bangkok.

The Women’s Club World Cup would probably give elite European teams from the UEFA Women’s Champions League the opportunity to play against teams from the National Women’s Soccer League in the United States and other nations where women’s soccer is not as popular.
FIFA has adopted a revised schedule that prioritises giving coaches and players more time for relaxation and recuperation. Additionally, after being nominated in October of last year on an interim basis, Mattias Grafstrom was officially chosen as the FIFA Secretary General by the FIFA Council.
“The Women’s International Match Calendar and the subsequent amendments to our regulations represent an important milestone in our pledge to take the women’s game to the next level by enhancing competitiveness across the world,” Infantino said.
“Football is my passion since I was born. I started playing it as a child and worked in football all my life at all different levels. There are therefore no words to express my feelings as I accept with pride and with a great sense of responsibility, the biggest challenge of my professional life,” Grafstrom said.
