Matchday six concluded with all top stars stepping up for their respective nation.

The FIFA World Cup 2026’s sixth matchday has already featured some incredible football, with the game’s biggest names participating. We describe what transpired below, starting with the earliest game.

The 2022 runners-up (and, of course, the 2018 champions) defeated a formidable Senegal team 3-1 in the first Group I match. All thanks to a dominant second-half effort from Kylian Mbappé and France. Norway defeated Iraq 4-1 in Boston to signal their comeback to the grandest stage.

Argentina, the reigning champions, got off to a winning start in the 2026 FIFA World Cup thanks to Lionel Messi’s first World Cup hat-trick, which stunned Algeria. With three goals, Messi is now tied for the 16-goal World Cup record held by Miroslav Klose.
