The Blues are expected to have a busy transfer window once again this summer.

After five managerial sackings at the club, Enzo Maresca has been appointed as the sixth different Chelsea manager in the Todd Boehly era for the upcoming season. The Italian head coach put pen to paper on a five-year contract until June 2029 with an option to extend.

Under Mauricio Pochettino last season, Chelsea had a mixed-bag campaign across all competitions. After losing the Carabao Cup final 1-0 in dramatic fashion to Liverpool, the Blues finished the Premier League season in a respectable sixth place, securing European football in the process after a year-long hiatus.

Chelsea are once again enjoying an active transfer window, which has proven to be a common trend under the new ownership. The club’s transfer strategy primarily focuses on talented youngsters with high potential. However, there is also a lineup of star players that could potentially see the exit door in this window if a good transfer proposal comes knocking at the door.

With that said, here are the five players who might leave Chelsea this summer:

5. Djordje Petrovic

Having joined the club just a year ago, goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic could already be on the move this summer. With recently appointed manager Enzo Maresca preferring a new first-choice shot-stopper in goal, Petrovic is expected to be sold in order to generate additional funds.

In the 2023-24 season, the 24-year-old goalkeeper made 31 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions, keeping seven clean sheets in the process. Through his consistent performances, the Serbian international replaced Robert Sanchez as the starting goalkeeper of the team under former head coach Mauricio Pochettino.

4. Trevoh Chalobah

After being officially left out of Chelsea’s USA pre-season tour in preparation for the upcoming season, Trevoh Chalobah has been transfer-listed by the club’s hierarchy this summer. The 25-year-old versatile defender has been deemed surplus to requirements, with the London club having enough cover in the defensive positions.

Last campaign, Chalobah was primarily used as a rotational player, making just 17 appearances across all competitions. The English centre-back also missed the majority of the season due to a serious thigh injury.

With a number of Premier League sides interested in signing the talented defender, Trevoh Chalobah could be one of the first names exiting the club in this transfer window.

3. Armando Broja

In his two years as a Chelsea first-team player, Armando Broja has failed to cement himself as the primary striker. Due to his injury problems and overall poor form, Broja was loaned out on two different occasions, first to Southampton and then to Fulham, in order to get much-needed game time and experience.

However, his most recent loan spell to Fulham proved to be a complete disaster. The 22-year-old forward made just eight substitute appearances, registering a mere one assist in the process.

Even if Broja remains at the club he could fall down in the pecking order after the Blues signed Marc Guiu, while Nicolas Jackson is already the preferred striker. Thus a move away will be wise for the Albanian striker.

2. Conor Gallagher

With just a year left on his current deal and Chelsea unable to tie him down yet to a long-term contract, Conor Gallagher could well and truly be on the move this summer. After captaining the team on multiple occasions last season, the Chelsea board view Gallagher as a key part of their long-term future.

In the 2023-24 campaign, the 24-year-old Englishman put in a solid shift all across the midfield. He made a staggering 50 appearances across all competitions, recording incredible numbers of seven goals and nine assists in the process.

With clubs such as Tottenham Hotspur, Atletico Madrid keeping a close eye on the contractual developments between the club and the player, Conor Gallagher could undoubtedly serve as the big-name departure for Chelsea.

1. Romelu Lukaku

After three chaotic years at Chelsea, Romelu Lukaku could finally leave the club on a permanent basis this summer. Ever since his mammoth €113 million switch from Inter Milan, Lukaku has endured a disastrous spell at the London club, with the striker being loaned out on two different occasions.

During his most recent loan spell at AS Roma last season, the 31-year-old forward enjoyed a fruitful campaign. The Belgian international made 47 appearances for the Italian giants across all competitions, accumulating 21 goals and four assists in the process.

With Chelsea slapping a €40 million price tag on Romelu Lukaku, Serie A side Napoli appear the most likely destination, with the Italian side preparing for the potential sale of their star striker Victor Osimhen.
