Florentino Perez to run for Real Madrid presidency in 2025: Reports
Florentino Perez has been the president of Los Blancos since 2009.
Real Madrid’s current president Florentino Perez will once again be one of the candidates to run for the club’s presidency in 2025. The 77-year-old has been the ever-present president of the club firstly taking the helm in 2000 until 2007 then once again returning to the hot seat in 2009. Since 2009, Perez has maintained his position as the president of the club ever since, winning further elections without any opposition.
Under him, Los Blancos have been one of the successful clubs, winning plenty of trophies, signing many star players and further solidifying the status of the club in world football. Once again the mastermind who engineered Luis Figo’s infamous move to Real Madrid from Barcelona will be among the participants running for club presidency in 2025.
However, due to his age and health issues speculations claimed that Florentino Perez may not take part in the elections but those rumours have been denied. Reportedly, the Real Madrid president is optimistic about extending his stay for five more years as the club’s president.
He appears resilient and ready to take on some of the upcoming tasks. They appear to have enrolled in every programme already, for instance, obtaining the rights to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup final game.
FIFA had informal discussions about this matter; however, it has not yet been brought up for discussion. Either way, the current president wants to hold the World Cup final at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium. The last time a World Cup final was played out at this stadium was back in 1982.
The elections are still a year away and no candidates have announced themselves. Since 2006, there haven’t been any elections featuring multiple candidates. In that last event of its kind, Ramón Calderón defeated Juan Palacios, Arturo Baldasano, Juan Miguel Villar Mir and Lorenzo Sanz back then.
Florentino Perez has prevailed in four elections without facing any challenge since then. There are minimal doubts about his future candidature and is more than likely to prevail once again. Thereafter the shrewd businessman can further solidify his legendary status as Real Madrid’s leader if he continues in this business.
