In 1988, John Barnes came up with the “Anfield Rap” for Liverpool. He was already a good player, but became a household name after his special music release back then. Barnes, in the next two years, came up with a New Order’s “World in Motion” for the 1990 World Cup anthem.

The former English star midfielder came up with a track, “Fog on the Tyne”, after his popularity following the 1990 World Cup. Paul Gascoigne’s track was catchy and made its way to number two in the charts at that time.

Asamoah Gyan is the all-time top goal-getter for the Ghana national football team. He teamed up with Castro back in 2010 for an Afrobeats banger. They came up with a track, “African Girls”, and it was a huge hit in West Africa, making Gyan a genuine pop culture figure beyond football.

Jese Rodriguez started his career in music during his early years (2014) at Real Madrid. He started under the name “Jey M”, where he came up with reggaeton and Latin pop releases that made waves in Spain and Latin America. This kept his career alive even though he was struggling in football.

Sergio Ramos is the newest addition to the list of footballers who have released music. The Real Madrid legend came up with a debut solo single, “Cibeles”, on August 31, 2025. The 39-year-old defender released the song, which is a tribute to Madrid’s Plaza de Cibeles, the site of Real Madrid’s title celebrations, but also a reflection of his painful exit from the club.
